In addition to Sam Brown, the Investigative Career Program is proud to have an illustrious group of instructors, all of whom are well-respected in their fields of endeavor.
Edwin Batiste - Loss Prevention

Mr. Batiste has been an instructor in Loss Prevention for the ICP since 2000. He received his BS from Brigham Young University in 1976, and was a police officer with the City of Los Angeles for six years. Mr. Batiste worked as an investigator for the Sam Brown Investigations for over ten years as well as loss prevention management for K-Mart and the Good Guys.
Wendy Bignall - Process Serving

Ms. Bignall has been an instructor at the ICP for the past two years for our Process Serving class. She owns her own process serving company, Do Process, here in San Francisco. From 1974 through 1987, Ms. Bignall worked as a legal secretary for a number of prestigious San Francisco law firms. She has a deep knowledge of the Bay Area courts and procedures, knowledge that she shares openly with students in the ICP.

Seth Derish - Background Investigations; Asset Searches; Skip Tracing; Public Records; Corporate Investigations

Mr. Derish has been an instructor with the ICP since 2001. He has run his own agency, Derish & Associates, since 1981, where he runs international investigations. He earned a BA in journalism from California State University - Chico, in 1978. He is an expert in asset location, and was featured in the book, "Private Eyes" by Sam Brown and Gini Graham Scott.
He is located in the Bay Area with offices in Costa Rica.


Anne Fields - Criminal Defense Investigations

Ms. Fields has been an instructor in the program, since 2000. An active criminal defense investigator with her own agency for twelve years, she has been an active investigator since 1984. She holds a degree in Administration of Justice from West Valley College, and has helped numerous aspiring investigators get their start in the field.
Terry Finn - Bail Enforcement; Videotaping; De-Bugging and Countermeasures; AOE/COE - Worker's Compensation Investigations

Mr. Finn is the founder of Incognito Services, and the co-owner of Madonna Bail Bonds and Incognito Services, a private investigation corporation. He has been an investigator since 1980's, and prior to that, a police officer for the Canadian Mounted Police. Mr. Finn earned his B. S. degree from San Jose State University in Criminal Justice and Psychology in 1980, and holds a Master's degree in Safety, as well as certificates in Aviation Safety, and Helicopter/Aircraft Accident Investigations. He qualified as an expert witness in Electronic Eavesdropping Countermeasures at Jarvis International Intelligence in 1992. He is an active member in nearly thirty professional associations.
Dr. John Frykman - Drugs

Dr. Frykman holds a B. A. in sociology, a Masters in divinity, and a Ph. D. in clinical psychology. He was the founding director of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinic, and has taught at the National Dug Abuse Training Center on topics such as the nature of drugs, lifestyles of substance abusers, and approaches to treatment, education, and prevention. He has worked extensively overseas, teaching and consulting, and since 1971, has served as the president of the Cypress Institute. He has taught classes at U.C. Berkeley on drugs and addiction and was the lead psychologist in the addiction program at Ross Hospital in Marin County. He has been on the staff of the ICP since 2001.
Stanley J. Grogan - Surveillance Report Writing & Anti-Terrorism

Formerly employed by the CIA, author of many articles on security and anti-terrorism, he holds teaching credentials in California and Hawaii, and is a Member Elect of the National Association of Chiefs of Police. He is an international lecturer on security and safety management, and is a graduate, FEMA Staff College; Air War College, Distinguished Graduate, Academic Instructor Course. He is a combat veteran of WWII and Korea, and was a resident staff intelligence officer in Vietnam. He has been listed in Who's Who in America since 1969, an active member of the National Defense Executive Reserve since 1984, assigned to FEMA. He is the Vice Chairman of the International Institute of Security and Safety Management, and has been an instructor at the ICP since its inception.
Ed Kelly - Photography; Accident Investigations

Mr. Kelly is a forensic accident photographer, and has served as a witness in many cases. His expertise as a photographer is a special asset to the ICP. He is the owner of Intercoastal Investigations, and has worked as an investigator since 1974. He earned an A.A. degree in Legal Studies through City College of San Francisco in 1995. Mr. Kelly is also a fine-arts photographer.
Francine Koehler - Interviewing; Interview Report Writing

Ms. Koehler has been an instructor at the ICP since 1998. She is considered by many to be one of the best witness interviewers in the business. She has served as the President of the California Association of Licensed Investigators, is the current Legislative Chair for government issues affecting California investigators, and remains an active force in the organization. She is the owner of Special Circumstances, an investigative agency.
Robert Lawhon - Insurance Defense

Mr. Lawhon has been an instructor with the ICP since 2001. He received his BS in History from the University of San Francisco in 1963, and has worked in the insurance field since 1982, where he holds numerous certificates and registrations. His experience in the areas of Life, Health & Disability Income Insurance; Estate Planning Analysis; Insurance Planning; and Long-Term Care Protection and Planning allows him to bring a rich level of expertise to his classes.
Kevin O'Malley - Gangs and Drugs

Mr. O'Malley has been an instructor with the ICP since 1999. He is an active duty police officer for more than eighteen years, and investigating Major Narcotics and Gang Trends, domestic and international, for the past fourteen years. He is a certified narcotics detection canine trainer and has instructed State and Federal law enforcement officers in drug recognition, interdiction, courtroom testimony, K9 utilization, and more. He has been assigned to the SF Drug Enforcement Administration Metropolitan Task Force as a Federally Deputized Task Force Agent since 1984. He was featured in the San Francisco Chronicle as making the largest Marijuana Bust at San Francisco Airport.

Gini Graham Scott, Ph. D, MS, JD - Privacy, Communications Skills, Psychological Profiling, Ethics & Confidentiality

A nationally known writer, game designer, organizational/business consultant, speaker, and seminar leader. She has published more than 35 books on diverse subjects, including debt collection, conflict resolution, marketing, and financial management. She has been an instructor at the ICP since its inception.
